Notes and changes since last report:

The Trails

Views

  • Patchy ice was encountered everywhere today.
  • Cheerios along the Cary Pines Trail were still famous with the springtails.
  • The bottom of the Old Gravel Pit was solid.
  • Buds were emerging in the Fern Glen.
  • A Hemina Pinion moth was lying belly up in the path through the Norway Spruce Glade.
  • It appeared to be "just resting", so I placed it under some leaves off to the side.
  • Near the intersection with the Ed-venture Trail we found a nest that I've walked by perhaps 50 times without having noticed.
  • One can't help but notice the work of a Pileated Woodpecker.
  • The foot bridge by the "Appendix" was waiting to bear us across the seep.
  • The first flakes of the forcasted snow fell as we passed the Old Oak and fungus.
  • I swung back to take the boardwalk across the end of the Sedge Meadow.
  • The snow doesn't show in the photo across to the Gifford House.
  • Or in the view of the Carriage House.
  • But it couldn't hide in front of the hills.
  • Eight inches were to fall over night. Again...
