Notes and changes since last report:

The Trails

Views

  • Several kinds of bee fly were out today. These look like bees, but don't sting; but they can hover and bees don't do that.
  • I thought the pool in the Old Gravel Pit would have dissipated since last week. I was wrong.
  • The Ed-venture Trail will get around the area.
  • The Fern Glen is perking up with blood root and Dutchman's breeches
  • Marsh marigolds and hepatica are going strong.
  • Even a crane fly was probing the pond edge.
  • It was still quite at the Old oak and fungus.
  • At the corner of the Old Hayfield I noticed a tree had developed a serious split.
  • Standing, chatting in the Gifford parking lot I heard a Common Raven pass close overhead.
  • The Gifford grounds provide a great vantage point for birding: open skys above, tall trees not far away, shrubs near by, and a short walk to open fields. And don't forget the gardens...
