The Trails

Views

  • The Old Oak and fungus were getting crisp in the heat and long dry spell we've been having.
  • Wood anemone was blooming along the Wappingers Creek trail below the bluff.
  • Dog violets were encountered everywhere.
  • A Noctuid moth rose from the path in front of me and let me get a shot after a round of hide and seek.
  • One little violet and a bloodroot were hiding near the "Appendix".
  • At their post in the Fern Glen pond were the Painted Turtles.
  • While having lunch, I noticed fresh reed leaves moving inspite of the calm: a Giant Water Bug had climbed out of the depths!
  • Up the hill Rue Anemone were out.
  • Near by, Spring Beauty were proving their name.
  • Unfortunately the Cut-leaved Tootwort was out of focus...
  • It would be nice to see what emerges; there were several such cocoons.
  • Trillium, red and white were in many locations in the Glen.
  • A Primrose lurked in a few as well.
  • Spice bush was filling the air with its citrus scent.
  • One clump of the peculiar Corydalis was near the road.
  • Back on the Cary Pines Trail, the first Eastern Tent Caterpillar nest was under construction.
  • The Old Gravel Pit is STILL wet. Take the Ed-venture Trail around it.
  • What's this sparling jewel of diamonds on black velvet doing on the Gifford sidewalk?
  • A now provoked Grapvine Epimenis!
  • A very fine finish to a very fine walk!
