Trail Report for October 05, 2005

Notes and changes since last report:

The Trails

Views

  • It was again a pleasant, mild, Autumn afternoon.
  • First stop was the Old Oak along the the Sedge Meadow Trail.
  • I surprised more than scared a Wood Thrush and we both bobbed and twisted a while, each trying to get a better view with out providing one.
  • The low light heightened the sense of descent as the Wappinger Creek Trail curved down from the bluff.
  • Looking way ahead down the creek I noticed an unfamiliar vertical lump. Binoculars proved that it had noticed me too.
  • Emerging from the Old Gravel Pit, I had to stop and gaze across the Little Bluestem Meadow at the Gifford House.
  • The gardens there have not given up yet: hibiscus in red and yellow were still in full force.
  • Something vaguely reminding me of morning glory was a nice detail of a larger composition.
  • It was a quiet walk today, but a nice one as always.
