Views
- The peonies in Gifford Garden were spectacular.
- In one corner of the garden lupines made them a nice background.
- A number of insects were attracted to the goat's beard including more than one eight-spotted forester, a handsome day flying moth.
- At the end of the Scotch Pine Allee, near trail marker post 6, I spotted an unusual leaf; It was that of the pink lady's-slipper, not seen in some years!
- In the Old Gravel Pit, nearer to post 13 than 14, was a patch of tree-like club moss.
- I'd never noticed honewort along the Wappinger Creek Trail before. Between posts 9 &apm; 10 was a spot with both normal and crinkled forms. The crinked form bay be in response to attack by another oganism. Investigation is in order...
- Tucked under a cedar in the Old Pasture was a nice mushroom or two.
In the Fern Glen
- In the 'Glen, American Ipecac was in full bloom.
- White baneberry was forming berries.
- When ripe, they are white with a black dot and are called doll's eyes.
- This exotic comes up every year, and every year we try to figure out what it is.
- Twinleaf has a seed pod that reminds me of the old Pezz dispenser.
- In the meadow up the road on my way out, a little wood satyr paused long enough for just one more photo.
