Notes and changes since last report:

The Trails

Trails

  • The winds were wild and clouds dramatic across the Old Hayfields.
  • Tuesday at about 10:00 AM, the Old Oak simply fell over with a crash that was heard at Gifford gardens and beyond.
  • A closer look shows the roots were pretty rotted away.
  • Other trees underneath were shattered by its enormous bulk.
  • Branches reach up in new ways - one of many changes to be seen, I'm sure.
  • Gray dogwood berries were still hanging on in the Old Pasture.
  • Back-lit little bluestem grass vanished among the cedars.
  • The maples were almost bare now at my favorite view up the Wappinger Creek.

In the Fern Glen

  • Burlap has been put up to protect the buds from deer browse through the winter.
  • The black waters of the pond have taken on a milky swirl.
  • With an invitation like this, how could I pass up the opportunity to try out a little hand lens.
  • See you in the spring!
